Hamburg before Christmas 2008
I’ve been fortunate to visit Hamburg a number a times, but here are a few images from those trips.  Most of my time in the city was spent in the city center, including before Christmas 2008 when I was on a tour of renewable energy sites in Northern Germany. (There are a couple more pictures of Christmas in Hamburg in that post)
Hamburg is a port city, and because of that it thrives on internationalism and the renewal that comes from trade and exchange of ideas. Â That’s not to say it doesn’t face challenges of integration, and a certain tension between native Germans and immigrants. Â But a city whose lifeblood stems from its role as a major commercial hub cannot wall itself off completely.
